Every four years we find ourselves getting all worked up over the Presidential election. But to me, it’s more like another fun reason to celebrate with friends! Election night is right around and no matter which political party you affiliate with, you’re going to want to host a party of your own to watch the votes roll in. I’ve searched high and low to find my favorite accouterments for an Election Night Party so that all you have to do is throw one.
Political Bottle Stoppers: $39.00 These make a great hostess gift for an election night party! The Donkey & Elephant bottle stoppers are sold individually so that you don’t have to buy the set. Let’s be honest, most of us would rather have one over the other. But, if you aren’t sure of some of your guests’ alliances, it could be fun to get both and have them out in two separate bottles of wine to see which bottle goes first!
Pottery Barn American Flag Table Runner: $51.99 Any political party needs to start with some stars and stripes. I love this table runner from Pottery Barn because you can use it again for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day.
Political Masks: $5.99 Support your favorite, or least favorite, candidate with a funny political mask. These are a great party favor to hand out when people arrive to organize alliances and make for more heated debates!
12 Star Spangled Cake Pops: $44.98 Everyone is going to need something to nosh on, aside from their finger nails, while watching the votes roll in. And while making star shaped finger sandwiches with a cookie cutter will be fun, you won’t want to make everything yourself. These cake pops are a sweet and easy way to add extra festivity to your spread.
Patriotic Pup Costume: $18.00 Don’t leave your pup out of the election night fun! This adorable Uncle Sam costume gives your party an official mascot of its own.
Politician Magnetic Poetry Kit: $12.99 A fun way to blow off some steam while waiting for the results of the evening. Set these up on a board close to the TV so that people can vent their frustrations or celebrate their victories for all to see.
Political Popper: $12.99 It’s bound to happen; people are bound to disagree when politics are involved, but keep the battles friendly. Settle political disputes at your gathering by firing these elephant and donkey poppers at each other.
Baberham Lincoln Knit Koozie: $8.99 Whether they’re having beer, soda, or a bottle of water, one of these American flag knit koozies will make it more patriotic. Pick up a few of these to have at your election night bar to keep everyone’s spirits in the spirit.
No election night party is complete without a signature cocktail! Try our Stars & Stripes Cocktail in a plain Old Fashioned Glass to show off the red, white, and blue layers.
Stars & Stripes Cocktail
- 2 parts authentic grenadine
- 2 parts vodka
- 2 parts blueberry martini mixer or blue curacao
- To keep these drinks cold either freeze glasses in advance or shake each layer in its own shaker full of ice to chill before pouring.
- Add the grenadine first.
- Pour the vodka over the back of a spoon slowly onto the grenadine.
- Pour the blueberry mixer over the back of a spoon carefully so that the layers stay separated.
- Garnish with a toothpick of blueberries & a strawberry OR a miniature flag
Head out to your local party store for red, white, and blue party supplies like flag garland, patriotic noise makers, and maybe even some stars & stripes napkins or swizzle sticks.
Hand out blank maps of the United States and have cups full of red & blue crayons nearby. Ask guests to fill in the states red where they will ultimately be a vote for Mitt Romney and blue where they will ultimately be a vote for Barack Obama. Hang them all up and see who got the most states correct. You could have a fun or funny prize for the winner like a big Uncle Sam hat or one of the political bottle stoppers.
