Detoxing and Energizing Green Smoothie

It’s a New Year and I am celebrating a new me! Well honestly my wellness plan went into effect before the New Year, but getting in that BIG YEAR TO HEALTHY ME attitude going is very important. One of the biggest changes for me was the way I eat. Not how much but what exactly I was consuming. While smoothies have always been a big favorite of mine, I was shocked when I realized how bad for me the store bought consumer ones really were and even more so how lacking in good for you content. Thus I hope a few of my readers will take a que from a reformed look the other way ingredient eater and try out this amazing Green Smoothie!

Detoxing and Energizing Green Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • approximately  2 cups or 2 handfuls of Kale torn off the stem (the stem is bitter)
  • 1 to 2 cups of Spinach, fresh or frozen
  • 3 inch piece of Cucumber
  • 3 inch piece of Zucchini
  • 1 to 2 stalks of Celery
  • 4 or 5 cherry Tomatoes (buy fresh then throw in the freezer)
  • 1/3 to 1/2 of an Avocado
  • 2 thin slices of fresh Ginger Root
  • 1/3 to 1/2 of a frozen sliced Banana
  • 1/3 to 1/2 C of frozen Strawberries
  • 1 C frozen  fruit blend ( Pineapple, Mango, Peaches)
  • 1/2 of fresh Lime, (pulp  and juice only)
  • 1/2 of fresh Pear
  • 2 to 3 T Honey
  • 2 pkgs. of Truvia,
  • 1 T ground Flax seed
  • 1 T green tea powder (such as Got Matcha brand)
  • 1 1/2  to 2 C cold water
  • 2 to 3 C crushed ice

Green Smoothie3

  1. Rough chop all Fruits and Veggies, unless you are fortunate to own a really nice heavy duty blender!
  2. In a 6 Cup blender, put in all unfrozen ingredients first, and half of the water.  Blend until smooth, adding more water if necessary.
  3. Add in all frozen ingredients, and blend until thick and smooth, adding a little more water as needed.
  4. Add in ice, flax seed, green tea powder, and blend.
  5. Taste first, then add in sweetener of choice.  Once you have made it a couple times, you will know exactly how much sweetener you prefer.

This makes about 6 or 7 cups, and will hold up in Fridge for 24 to 36 hours.

I drink half the first morning, and add more ice, and re-blend the next morning, to get that frosty texture.

  22. Thanks for the recipe with green veggies and chia seeds. I don’t see many recipes with Matcha tea, so this is a keeper. I’ll wait until summer to include the fruits and honey as I’m following a High Protein and Green Veggie diet and hopefully will be at a maintenance weight by then. I printed off a copy of the recipe.

But with all the different ingredients I just wonder if it would pass his taste test. I guess I’ll just have to try it and see. If he won’t drink it, I will. Thanks for sharing.

I’m going to give this a try, but maybe leave out a few ingredients. Love flax seeds though and eat them daily on my oatmeal.
