Do you have shy children or one who worries more than they should? Well I most certainly do! My Elliot at age one is afraid of anyone he never met or has met and forgotten about. Then my youngest daughter is labeled whiney by some because she tends to be very sensitive in all situations. Now while I have read loads of information on breaking them from these shells, it seems very normal that a child go through phases such as these. So to help them feel more comfortable we gave each their own WorryWoo Monster.

“The WorryWoo Monsters, a series by Andi Green, was first seen in a New York City art exhibition in 2001. Originally called The Monsters in My Head, Green wanted to create characters with a story that each embodied an emotion. Using her design and illustration background she built 5 light boxes, 24”X36” in size, each containing a monster with its story Xerox-transferred to the front of the box. From loneliness to confusion, she began tackling complicated feelings and transformed them into quirky, loveable characters. Her message of “embrace your emotions” received such a positive response, she was asked by many if she ever considered turning her single art pieces into storybooks. In 2002 she began to expand her concept, but it wasn’t until 2007 that she decided to publish and produce her new collection.”

My baby claimed Nola for his own right out of the box. She arrived just in time for us to being preparing him for doctor’s visits and surgery to come. I knew that both of these would cause him stress from being around new people who poked and prodded at him. We take Nola with us wherever he goes that is new and possibly scary for him. While it has not tamed his fears, he does hold and play with her to help pass the time. She is very soft and huggable as you can see.

Nola also arrived with the The Lonely Little Monster which is an imaginative tale by Andi Green which deals with the importance of seeing the world in a different way. Through the use of whimsical illustrations we follow the main character as she ponders her plight. The heartwarming ending puts a positive spin on a common situation and proves that things can change, especially if you open your eyes! All WorryWoo storybooks are printed with environmentally friendly soy inks.

Squeek is The Monster of Innocence and needs to step outside his bubble. This was the perfect choice for my Natalie who tends to be a loner and as mentioned before wears her feelings upon her shoulders. Since his introduction Squeek has went to show and tell twice, been on a ride to the shopping plaza and is my little girl’s bedtime pal. This adorably cute cotton candy pink monster even rides in circles with her on the scooter and has teatime on the weekends.

The Monster In The Bubble is a story about how Squeek hides in his cozy bubble dreaming of all he could do if he just stepped outside. This was a wonderful read for us as a family. I found that not only did Natalie feel connected to him but it also helped my other children understand a little more about the way she may feel.

We are thrilled to have the WorryWoo Monsters and have seen how children feel close to their stories and enjoy the adorablely soft plush. They would make excellent ideas for a child that is just starting a new routine (school, daycare, etc), first time dentist or doctor’s visits or just if they have a shy or worrisome personality like my two children do. In fact I really am considering Fuddle for my oldest daughter’s birthday. This is the Monster Who Couldn’t Decide and we see a lot of that now in her.
