I am pretty sure that if my husband could change his name it would be to doctor science. Every since he was a young boy he has created experiments of all sorts. Now that we have children of our own, he has tried to teach them as much as their minds can understand so that one day if they so choice, they will seek a major in this field. Though for now of course to them it is all about spending time with dad having fun.

One of our favorite online shops for finding new kits and projects to introduce them to new Scientifics is Steve Spangler Science. Not only are his products of good quality, we also find the kits to be some of the most complete and workable available for sale online. They also offer a selection that is great for younger learners all the way to the skilled such as Daddy D is.

The Wonder Fly Stick is our most recent addition to our collection of goodies. The first thing I will say is that it works and is a great way to make others raise an eyebrow or two. We spent at least an hour trying various stencils and each one taking their turn.

The Wonder Fly Stick is an ingenious battery operated static electricity generator that allows you to float stencil shapes on a cloud of electrons. Press the button on the Wonder Fly Stick for a few seconds to generate a static charge. Drop the stencil shape onto the stick to quickly transfer the negative charge to the stencil. Since like charges repel each other, the negatively charged stencil shape floats above the negatively charged stick. The learning curve is about two minutes and you’re ready to amaze everyone with the Wonder Fly Stick.

How does it work?
Press the button on the Wonder Fly Stick for a few seconds to generate a negative static charge. Drop the stencil shape onto the stick to quickly transfer the negative charge to the stencil. Since like charges repel each other, the negatively charged stencil shape floats above the negatively charged stick. If you want to impress someone with your newly acquired knowledge, just tell them that the Wonder Fly Stick is a demonstration of “electrostatic propulsion and the repulsion of like charges.” Okay, if you really want to impress someone, just make the shapes float!

This is a really cool piece to introduce a child to the works of static electricity or even beginning science. Once they take an interest in how this works, the options are endless after that and Steve Spangler has hundreds of products and kits to keep them inventing, experimenting and guessing along the way.
